I went to Herzig for laser vision correction in December of 2024. Dr. Barrett Eubanks helped correct my nearsightedness with a SMILE procedure. Its been a few weeks since then and I have been extremely satisfied with how everything went. I dont normally write reviews, but I wanted to share some of my experiences with Dr. Eubanks and Herzig, in hopes someone else might find the information useful. Of course, this is just my own experience, so please dont take it as medical advice For the past several years, Ive had some friends do laser vision correction and highly recommend it. Ive worn a mix of contacts and glasses, never really minded, but the idea of not needing them was very appealing, especially for a lot of sports and activities. However, Im pretty squeamish, so the idea of eye surgery just sat in the back of my mind for a while.Last year, when I visited my optometrist, she said I would likely be a good candidate and referred me to a free consultation at Herzig. At the consultation they run some tests to determine eligibility, explain the different procedures, and which options would be best suited for me. In my case, they suggested SMILE as it was the least invasive and had the fastest recovery time. Dr Eubanks was very approachable, friendly, and very happy to answer questions. His personality and explanation helped me get over a lot of my fears. They never pressured me to move forward and were always enthusiastic to answer my questions which helped put me at ease. After sitting on it for a couple weeks, and asking a few follow up questions, I decided to book the procedure. They provided comprehensive documentation on what to do before, what to expect during the procedure, and what to do after. Its quite simple and not very onerous at all.On the day of, they took some measurements on my eyes just to verify everything again. They gave me some eye drops and sunglasses to take home and explained post-op instructions. Dr. Eubanks, explained exactly how the procedure would go and what to expect. I was pretty nervous, but Dr. Eubanks has a friendly and competent personality which helped a lot. The procedure itself was totally painless, and effortless. I looked at a dot in a machine for like 15 seconds. The laser cut away material in the cornea to reshape it. Dr. Eubanks pulled the excess material away. During the entire time, they talk you through exactly whats happening and what to expect so there are no surprises. It helped me feel comfortable. The entire procedure only took me about 10 minutes and felt quick. When they turned on the lights again, I could see fine and walk around no problem. Vision was a bit blurry maybe akin to just not wearing glasses. After the procedure, every couple hours for the next few weeks you have to put eye drops in (they provide easy to follow instructions). And there are some follow up appointments. The next day at the first follow up they did some quick tests and said I was good to drive without glasses now and gave me a temporary form to keep with my drivers licence. They said everything seemed normal and my eyes would continue to improve in the next few days/weeks. My eyes were a bit sensitive to light, so I kept my sunglasses on for a few days. I could use computer screens if I needed to, but I avoided them for a few days. I was told its normal for your eyes to be dry for a bit, but that only lasted a day for me.I did my one week follow up at my normal optometrist. By then pretty much all the side effects were gone. There are some slight halos around bright lights and my optometrist says thats also normal and it usually takes around 3 months for that to fully go away. However, day-to-day I never notice and it doesnt affect my vision.Again, super happy with the results! The process was quick, efficient, and easy. I never felt pressured into anything, anxious, or like I didnt understand what was going on. All the staff were very friendly, competent, and professional. Thanks again to Dr. Eubanks and the entire team at Herzig 3
