LASIK stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. A wide range of myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism can be corrected by the LASIK procedure. It is a delicate surgical procedure where a flap is created and cornea is reshaped to correct your prescription. The flap is then put back into place and begins healing, which allows for a predictable healing response. Your vision stabilizes rapidly and you can expect little or no discomfort following LASIK. PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) is a refractive procedure performed to correct myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism.
