Life changing! I had the SMILE procedure done a year and a half ago and it has been the best investment of my life. If you would like my full perspective, read on.... The consultation: I booked consultations at two places in Yorkville back in October 2021 and my experience at the other place was very Impersonal and not reassuring. Due to Covid, some of these businesses forgot about customer service and how to make a client feel comfortable. So strange. When I showed up at Herzig for my consultation, I was pleasantly surprised. The technicians spent a great amount of time doing tests and then the optometrist took his time to answer my questions on both options that were presented to me. I never felt rushed. I was super happy to learn that I was a candidate for SMILE, and jumped on the opportunity to get this procedure booked prior to the Christmas Holidays. Even after the initial consultation, I was a bit hesitant and had more questions. I called back and asked to book a follow up appointment with my surgeon and they gladly accommodated me. Once I spoke to him in person, I felt much more at ease and ready to go through the SMILE procedure. The surgery day: I was asked if I wanted to take a pill to make me feel relaxed but I did not care for it. It is not necessary at all! The surgery itself lasts a few minutes. Dr. Herzig has a very calm tone so I felt at ease when he walked me through the directions and just followed his lead. Youre awake the entire time, and can see. The machine they use will suction your eye, and then the lasers go to work. The surgeon will then remove the layer by making a small incision. I dont feel anything, just a bit of pressure. It was not painful and I was actually quite shocked at how painless it was! Immediately after: I wore the sunglasses they gave me to avoid any sort of sensitivity to light. I did have a hard time keeping my eyes open after the surgery, so I had my sister pick me up and rushed home to go to sleep. That nap helped so much! (They provide T3s, but honestly you dont really need them.) The Recovery: You will be given directions on exactly how and when you need to take antibiotic and steroid drops. I was very good for the first couple days but then got a bit lazy so make sure you stick to it. They need to be applied multiple times a day for the first week. At the 24 hour mark though, I could see everything far away very clearly! ( I started with -6.00 eyesight so fairly poor.) I even drove my car 2 days after the surgery without any issues! When I say it is life changing, I truly mean it. To wake up and NOT need glasses/ contacts after 20 years is life changing. Im super grateful with the results so far and learned that I have 20/15 vision at my one year month appointment which is incredible. There has been no dry eye, or feeling of sand which is such a relief. I totally recommend this surgery to those who are eligible. Its the least invasive, and has the quickest recovery. 1000% worth every penny! I would like to thank the Staff at this clinic and Dr. Herzig himself for taking great care of me. 🙂 UPDATE: 18 months later, eyes still thriving with great vision. No issues 🙂

The Herzig Eye Institute were friendly, professional and accommodating. They were very thorough with regards to not only the RFL procedure (which was life changing) but also during the pre-op and post- op meetings and check ups.I would absolutely recommend them to anyone considering any form of eye treatment.

I give Herzig six stars out of five! Absolutely thorough and top-notch initial consultation, preparatory visits and tests, surgery prep, quick, painless surgery, aftercare and post-op followup. Superb and highly recommended. Very good value for the money.
